Why do people visit Auschwitz or civil war battle locations? Why do people visit Pearl Harbor or Ground Zero or the Oklahoma City Bombing location? They’re bloody, horrible murder sites. And they’re history.
Unimaginable things happened there and I go to the La Bianca and Wonderland and Jodi Arias Murder sites for the same reason: to try and wrap my brain around how these things happened. Evil and innocence. To honor the dead and make a futile attempt at understanding how someone can commit these acts.
They’re not just stories on TV or in books. They were real events that happened to real people and visiting these sites gives them that humanity that tabloids, in the case of celeb/infamous murder sites, can rob them of.
It’s the closest you can come to evil without touching it.
Basically for all the reasons Trent explained. It was folklore until he was actually there. Then he realized Sharon was a real person and the horror of it set in. It makes the stories real.
